The Forrásliget housing project is built on a former brickworks area, next to the Csillaghegy swimming-pool. Our work was preceded by numerous studies on urban structure, traffic, public utilities, environmental effects, and on the real estate market. We took these as a basis for deciding on the governing principles of design. The new residential area has to fit into its surroundings organically, the buildings have to be on the same scale as those of the neighbourhood. In order to offer various alternatives to satisfy the demand for housing in the neighbourhood, we designed several types of buildings: detached houses, row-houses, and buildings with more flats.
We had to provide the prerequisites for the dwellers`comfort: the various facilities (shopping, kindergarten, school, sports) were made easily available. The flats were orientated to incur optimal solar gain, and they were extended by balconies, terraces, and gardens with private and common use. Proceeding from the principles above, 400 flats were planted, sizes ranging from 36 square metres to 140 square metres, on the 17 acre (7 hectare) land, in various building types.
